Description of QUIKSCAT Satellite:

QuikScat (Quick Scatterometer) was an American oceanographic satellite. It measured ocean winds and directions by monitoring wind-induced ripples by means of a microwave scatterometer. The scanning width was 1,800 km. The instrument was a follow-up to the scatterometer on-board the Japanese ADEOS spacecraft (96-046A) that operated until 30 June 1997.
